I REALLY did not want to study for an exam I had to take in General Medicine, required by one of the State Boards. This book totally got me into studying. First, it was reassuring to discover that every single thing I knew I had to review & worried about, was there. I kept a few reference books on the side in case I wanted to delve into something more, but truly there is no need for that to pass the exam. This book is doable, hits the exact right level of difficulty, has superb explanations and, best of all, the authors are real people! Every now and then, they throw in something humorous as someone else mentioned and I loved it....like a comment about most conjunctivitis infections. Most have having a viral etiology but bear in mind that children get "magically better with topical antibacterial ointments"...and the topicals can prevent a secondary bacterial infection anyway. A nice mixture of humor, rigorous discussion and common sense. Enough to keep me plowing through it a little every night. Don't understimate the book. It's packed with up-to-date, test-taking material. You probably won't get through as much per night as you though you might. But I kept going & passed the exam. These authors deserve a prize! I only wish they would write the Board Certification Review for my Specialty!
